Reporting to the site General Manager, the Director of Metal Finishing is a key role on the site management team with full responsibility for the final processing and paint operations in a 24/7 aerospace manufacturing facility. This role is accountable for production scheduling, budgeting, and compliance with QMS, environmental, health, and safety regulations. The Director manages up to thirty (30) direct and indirect reports in the paint and processing operations.

This role is identified as requiring ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) compliance; therefore, qualified candidates must meet the definition of a U.S. Person (per EAR Part 772 and ITAR 120.15):

Essential Functions

  • Ensures compliance with Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality, OSHA, and other applicable local, state, and federal regulations; coordinates with applicable agencies to obtain/maintain applicable permits and oversees applicable monitoring and reporting in compliance with regulations
  • Responsible for appropriate purchasing, storage, handling, and disposal of chemicals and hazardous waste generated by operations; trained/certified in safe practices and compliance with hazardous waste collection and control
  • Manages annual budget to plan for personnel, department consumables, equipment maintenance and capital projects as required; has full budget responsibility for departmental component of the site P&L
  • Effectively manages selection, development, performance management, and discipline of assigned personnel; alternates schedule as needed to address personnel issues and/or conduct training on evenings, nights, and weekend shifts
  • Reviews customer contracts and purchase orders for finishing requirements; generates work instructions and internal procedures that ensure compliance with customer specifications; evaluates non-conforming product to ensure rework is compliant with customer requirements and applicable restrictions or specifications
  • Ensures appropriate preventive maintenance is completed as required and coordinates with facilities and maintenance personnel to schedule downtime, upgrades, and to minimize unexpected downtime
  • Reviews and approves calibration requirements for department equipment; understands intervals, tolerances, and other calibration requirements; creates purchase orders for calibration services
  • Utilizes AS9100 framework to control all administrative systems and training schedules
  • Utilizes knowledge of lean manufacturing to deliver process and/or procedure changes that improve employee safety, productivity, and generate positive business results
Education & Work Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Operations Management, Business Administration, or other technical program is required
  • Continuing vocational/technical education in manufacturing operations, chemistry, metal processing or similar is preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years experience with progressively responsible experience in manufacturing operations, including leadership experience in final operations in metal finishing
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in production management, including leadership experience in paint, anodizing, or similar processing and supervision of medium- to large-sized teams of first-line supervisors and hourly production personnel
  • Experience in aerospace manufacturing is preferred
Other Required Skills & Abilities
  • Documented success in executing chemical, shot peen, and NDT Nadcap audits, ISO audits, and/or AS9100 audits (preferred); demonstrated mastery of daily process controls including equipment calibration and documentation requirements to meet both customer and audit specifications
  • Responsible for scheduling pre-audits and overseeing completion of corrective actions and process improvements in pursuit of ongoing Nadcap accreditation requirements
  • Thorough understanding of nondestructive testing (Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection) including the qualifications for trainees, Level I and Level II personnel
  • Experienced and previously trained/certified in laboratory functions including salt spray, titrations for cleaner, etch, deoxidizer, chemical conversion coatings, and boric acid anodizing
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities to appropriately handle unexpected challenges
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality, securing employee and company records, and demonstrating integrity in communications and actions
  • Self-management skills including efficiency, sense of urgency, ability to adapt and respond to unexpected circumstances, and ability to juggle multiple projects, competing priorities, and meet concurrent deadlines
  • Leadership skills evidenced by talent selection, retention, and personnel development
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (English)

To perform the essential functions of the role, employees must be able to perform the following activities with or without reasonable accommodations:
  • Sit for prolonged periods at a desk and working on a computer
  • Regularly stand and walk throughout the facility, including all buildings and the manufacturing areas
  • Regularly lift, carry (short-distances), and push/pull up to 50 pounds
  • Regularly climb steps, stairs, or ladders
  • Occasionally bend, crawl, stoop, squat, or kneel
  • Constantly communicate verbally and in writing (English) using a phone, texts or other messaging
  • Read mics, calipers, or other precision measuring instruments; accurately distinguish colors
  • Use hands and fingers to operate computer keyboards, measurement instruments, and manually examine parts
  • Occasionally drive a motor vehicle; valid Driver's license and evidence of insurability must be maintained
Working Conditions

Work is performed in a combination of locations including office and the manufacturing shop environment where working conditions vary significantly; use of mandatory personal protective equipment (PPE) is required and may include eye and hand protection, safety footwear, and hearing protection. Respiratory protection may be required.
