The 2023 U.S. Department of Defense Corrosion Prevention Technology and Innovation Symposium will be held Aug. 14-17 in Tucson, Arizona.
The DoD says it is a critical event that fosters an efficient and effective collaborative environment to not only better understand the impact of corrosion on DoD equipment and facilities but also to jointly work toward practical prevention and control solutions.
"The Symposium is back after a three-year hiatus due to the impacts of COVID-19 and promises to be one of the best ever," says Vic S. Ramdass, Ph.D., Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Materiel Readiness.
"It is the only official DoD conference solely focused on impacts, mitigation, and prevention of corrosion on weapon systems, equipment, and facilities and is co-located with the Defense Corrosion Exhibition," Ramdass says.
The event is run by the Association for Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP), under a contract with the DoD.
The theme of this year's conference is Corrosion Prevention as a Readiness Enabler. Ramdass says the comprehensive technical program is aligned with Secretary Austin's and Under Secretary LaPlante's goals of driving efficiencies and cost reductions to project and sustain forces globally.
"The conference endeavors to facilitate the exchange of information, share ideas, capabilities, initiatives, and lessons learned between all members of the DoD Corrosion Community and corrosion prevention and control organizations," Ramdass says.
The conference features technical information sessions, focused tracks, workshops, and a corrosion poster competition. Additionally, a limited number of attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a technical tour.
The event brings together a diverse spectrum of technical expertise and knowledge representing government, industry, academia, and international corrosion partners. Participants represent essentially every field related to corrosion prevention and control, including basic and applied research, maintenance and sustainment, research and development, practitioners and manufacturers, and the DoD acquisition workforce.
The DoD Corrosion Prevention Technology and Innovation Symposium is the only DoD conference solely focused on the effects, mitigation, and prevention of corrosion on weapon systems, equipment, and facilities. This event brings together the corrosion community, maintenance professionals, and the broader sustainment community to address challenges, exchange information, and share best practices. Attendees include DoD civilian and Military Service personnel, industry, and academia.
