Air Power, a leading distributor of industrial products and integrated solutions provider based in High Point, North Carolina, has acquired Zenmar Power Tool and Hoist Systems of Cockeysville, Maryland.

The addition of Zenmar joins two industrial distributors that are similar in culture and with rich histories, to further provide solutions to the manufacturing community across the Southeast and along the Mid-Atlantic region.

Dan Senff, president of Air Power, says the two companies will work closely together over the next several months.

“We’ll be aligning systems, incorporating best practices, and bring additional tools, resources, and infrastructure to this newly served market,” Senff says. “For customers, this acquisition will mean extended access to additional brands, a team of application specialists, engineers, service technicians, project managers, lab facilities, and support networks to further create the value needed in today’s environment.”

Zenmar is an industrial distributor and solutions provider whose focused market segments include aerospace, chemicals, construction, electronics, food and beverage, general manufacturing, natural gas, marine, metal and fabrication, pharmaceutical, power generation, and many other industries.

The company has been serving the market since 1982, and has a great reputation for servicing their customer base and providing value-added solutions.

“They have been a trusted source for material handling, crane and hoist systems, DC electric fastening systems, and safety platforms across the regions they serve,” Senff says. Together, the two companies represent the leading brands in the finishing industry for liquid and powder, mix, meter, and dispense technology of fluids, sealants, and adhesives, as well as tools and material handling solutions.

“We see a great opportunity to work hand-in-hand with a great team to provide support, services, and solutions to the many customers,” Senff says. “As our geographic footprint grows farther north, throughout this expanded region, we will continue to provide market-leading services and solutions to our customers. Our business model and approach to the market aligns very well and we are excited about what this means for our customers and our employees.”

Family Owned Since 1967

Air Power is a family owned company that has been in operation under the same name since 1967. William Ball spent many days with Ohio-based ARO Corporation at a time when High Point was the center of U.S. furniture manufacturing. Seeing the need for a more specialized supplier to High Point area industry, Ball decided to make a change. In 1967, he and his wife, Alice, established Air Power, Inc. ARO granted them a distributorship, and the company is still growing and adapting to business trends 53 years later.

In addition to supporting new equipment sales locally to High Point, Air Power began expanding its territory. In the mid-1970s and with business growing, Air Power opened another location in Lenoir, NC that is still open. This was followed by a location in Raleigh, NC just a year later in 1976. These three locations formed the triangle which was represented in the late 1970’s Air Power logo which was used until recently.

Throughout the years, Air Power grew rapidly by adding branch offices and warehouses in Virginia, Tennessee, Mississippi, South Carolina, and Georgia between 1977 and 2008. With numerous businesses in the Southeast U.S. requesting support abroad, Air Power opened Air Power Mexico (APMX) in Monterrey in 2010.

After a nine year hiatus in opening new locations, Air Power focused on expanding business in current locations. Air Power took the steps to complete its Southeastern U.S. footprint by acquiring Lee Patterson Company in Orlando, Florida, which expanded Air Power into all of the Florida market. In the same year, Air Power moved the Greenville, SC branch just south of its long-held location to a brand new stand-alone warehouse and sales office in Piedmont, SC.

The Air Power family has grown immensely from its beginnings in a North Carolina furniture manufacturing community. Today, Air Power is an ever expanding and evolving solutions provider that continues to grow. As of July 2020, Air Power is actively represented in AL, DE, FL, GA, MD, MS, NC, PA, SC, TN, VA, WV, and the District of Columbia. During the 2019 calendar year, Air Power sold product into 49 states, including Alaska. Currently, Air Power has 10 stocking locations that also offer in-house service and repair. These locations include Baltimore, MD, Chattanooga, TN, High Point, NC, Lenoir, NC, Orlando, FL, Piedmont, SC, Salem, VA, Stockbridge, GA, Tupelo, MS, and Monterrey, MX. There are also two additional sales offices that do not stock or service but support customers regionally. Those are Charlotte and Raleigh, both in NC.

50th Anniversary Represented by Diverse Product Competencies

Air Power has expanded its products and services portfolio over the years. As Air Power celebrated their 50th year in business in 2017, the organization breaks its business into three main competencies. ASSEMBLE: a full offering of standard tightening equipment to precision fastening tools.  MOVE: represents a full spectrum of both human, liquid and material safety and handling equipment and finally, COAT: an extensive offering of liquid, powder and adhesive application equipment from the paint mixing/metering, part handling to booths, ovens and conveyors.  (insert 20190725_132250_resized)
