Doerken Coatings North America ended the 2020 year with numerous significant achievements beginning with the reorganization of several surface treatment business units, CD Color, Protec and Doerken MKS, into Doerken Coatings.
Highlighting other notable achievements is the new material approval with General Motors. Doerken Coatings North America won approval for GMW14671 Type H Coating Performance for Underhood and Underbody Components.
Doerken’s corrosion experts, Rick Babik and Albert Gelles, collaborated with General Motors Materials Engineering through extensive validation testing, complete documentation and reporting which led to the approval for use of DELTA-PROTEKT® KL120 and DELTA-PROTEKT® VH 321 GZ to GMW14671 Type H (Black) as an entire coating system for use on Underhood and Underbody Components.
“Doerken Coatings North America DELTA-PROTEKT® KL 120 is a zinc flake technology basecoat while the DELTA-PROTEKT® VH 321 GZ is a topcoat,” Gelles says. “Together they provide multifunctional performance characteristics in addition to superior corrosion protection such as a defined coefficient of friction window, resistance to media, coloring etc.”
Additionally, the DELTA-PROTEKT® VH 321 GZ enhances corrosion protection properties of the DELTA-PROTEKT® KL 120 basecoat.
“All Doerken Coatings products are free of harmful heavy metals such as chromium VI,” Babik says. “As there is no hydrogen involved during the application process, there is no danger of application-related hydrogen-induced stress corrosion cracking.”
This advancement of corrosion protection technology and application is a continuation of Doerken Coatings North America’s evolving partnership with General Motors.
