TechTalk: Michael Feldstein, Surface Technology, on One-Plate

One-Plate is an electroless nickel using just one component for the make-up and replenishment of the EN bath, and we discuss its development with Michael Feldstein, President of Surface Technology Inc.

Feldstein says One-Plate solutions are available in low, mid, high phosphorous EN as well as composites with Teflon, diamond, silicon carbide and boron nitride. He says that with just a single component, One-Plate benefits platers with more consistent quality, ease of use, and cost savings on transportation and inventory.

“That's important because the industry requires the coatings to remain consistent with the same hardness, same corrosion resistance, same appearance, same stress, all of those features,” Feldstein says. “It's the process that's unique; instead of the three components that the industry has typically used — and we used in our plating shop, and we sold to others around the world for decades to make up a bath and replenish it over its lifetime — it's one single component. You make up the bath with this one component and water.”

He says shops can replenish with that same component until the end of the bath life.

“It's the innovation is in the process,” Feldstein says. “It solves problems that most shops didn't even know they have.”
