Plating Shop Clears Air With a New Ventilation System, Ensuring Better Quality Coatings

General Magnaplate has completed an upgrade of its ventilation system at its Arlington, Texas facility.

With this new system in place, the company says engineered coatings are produced in a cleaner, healthier environment.

The ventilation system is designed to reduce humidity and improve visibility by eliminating steam and fog in production areas. Every tank that produces heat received the upgrade, including tanks on the Nedox and Tufram production lines.

Ventilation 2The new system was tailored for General Magnaplate’s facility with installation, equipment and expertise provided by PKG Equipment, a specialist in wet process equipment typically used in the surface enhancement industry.

“The new ventilation system is another example of our commitment to product quality and purity,” said Ligon de Vogel, VP of Operations and Corporate Strategy. “This investment also supports our constant efforts to optimize our production environment with regard to our employees’ health and safety.

de Vogel says this project would not have been possible without exceptional effort by both the PKG team and General Magnaplate associates. The system required six months of design and planning, and the installation took three weeks to complete. During that time, tanks were moved and a set of large blowers was installed on the roof. Knowing this project would create processing downtime, de Vogel says their production and maintenance teams kept daily operations running smoothly so that customers' orders were not affected.

Since the installation, humidity and fog are no longer a problem, de Vogel says, and along with the new LED lighting system, visibility has never been better. The completed project also clears the way for further improvements to the AS9100:D-certified facility.
