Airmarine Electroplating and Airlift Hydraulics in Freeport, New York, have been sold to Magnaghi Aeronautica USA Inc., the U.S. holding company of Italian-based aerospace company Magnaghi Aeronautica S.p.A.
Airmarine Electroplating provides chrome and cadmium plating services, as well as conversion coatings, non-destructive testing, and grinding services.
It is expected MA Group — through its purchase of HSM Machine Works in Brunswick, North Carolina in 2018 — will integrate the Air Marine and Airlift Hydraulics facility into its two manufacturing plants in North Carolina and Long Island, NY.
MA Group, designs, develops and produces complete landing systems on a variety of aeronautical programs and manufacturers, including Boeing, Airbus, Lockheed Martin, and Leonardo. The acquisition of Air Marine and Airlift Hydraulics will strengthen and enhance the company’s services. Customers and partners will also be able to count on seven industrial sites in Italy, Brazil and the USA, with about 800 global employees.
“This acquisition marks a step forward in the expansion of our capabilities in the USA and increasing the offer of products, solutions and services for all of our customers' activities,” says Paolo Graziano, CEO of the MA Group, in a company statement.
Airmarine was founded in 1960 to provide metal finishing and machine shop services to the local aerospace defense industry. The shop’s website says Grumman Aerospace and Republic Aviation were producing vast numbers of military aircraft for the U.S. Navy and Air Force, and their shop provided the crucial plating, non-destructive testing, and machine services necessary to manufacture the landing gear and hydraulic systems for the F-14 Tomcat, A-6 Intruder, E-2 Hawkeye, A-10 Wart Hog and F-111 Ardvark.
“We even provided support for NASA and their landmark Apollo and LEM programs,” Airmarine Electroplating officials say. “In 1975 our focus transitioned to corporate aviation and regional airline platforms.”
