Michael Feldstein is President of Surface Technology, Inc., an innovative force in the metal finishing industry for decades with over 100 U.S. and foreign patents, with more pending.
Aside from creating and manufacturing chemistries, STI also provides electroless nickel plating services at its New Jersey headquarters.
How did you get your start in the finishing industry?
I started at the age of six when my father founded Surface Technology, Inc., and I had the opportunity to do odd jobs around the facility. I continued to help out over the years, and after college decided I wanted to join the company long-term.
What do you enjoy best about the industry?
The ability to innovate new products and processes to be more effective, environmental, and so on.
If money was no object, what would you do all day?
The same as I am doing now.
If you could go back in time, what year would you travel to?
1969 for Game 5 of the World Series.
What are your hobbies?
I enjoy running, golf, astrophotography, volunteering, and travel.
Aside from necessities, what one thing could you not go a day without?
I don't know if exercise counts as a necessity, but I make it a point to do it every day.

Where do you see yourself in five years?
Hopefully healthy and enjoying quality time with my family and continuing to grow and innovate with my team at STI and terrific customers around the world.
If you were a superhero, what powers would you have?
I have always admired Batman since he created his own powers and a cool car and devices.
What would you do if you won the lottery?
I suppose I would scream, "I won," but then I don't know what I would do after that.
What's your favorite zoo animal?
Monkeys, of course.
Would you rather trade intelligence for looks or looks for intelligence?
I definitely value intelligence more than looks.
What's your favorite music or musician?
Bob Marley.
What's the most daring thing you've ever done?
Aside from answering these questions, probably running marathons since they take a lot of time and mental focus.
What was the last thing you watched on T.V.?
The Drive to Survive series about Formula 1.
What was the last book you read?
I'm in the middle of Empire of the Summer Moon and really enjoying it. I prefer history, bios, and other non-fiction books.
What's your favorite type of foreign food?
Indian is number one, followed by Middle Eastern foods.
Are you a clean or messy person?
Definitely clean, except for my desk.
What's your favorite fast-food chain?
White Castle as an occasional indulgence.
What's your favorite family recipe?
Monkey bread for birthdays.
What's your favorite family tradition?
Always being front row on the curb at the NYC Thanksgiving Parade.
What is your favorite movie?
I love watching movies and can't narrow it down to one, but I'll say Godfather 1 and 2, and all Star Wars except 1 and 2.
