Paragon Medical, a global medical device manufacturer, has acquired Industrial Anodizing Inc. in Hyrum, Utah, which specializes in the titanium type II and type III anodizing process.

Brett CummingsBrett CummingsParagon Medical says its purchase of Industrial Anodizing will further increase its ability to offer a wide range of manufacturing capabilities and help accelerate new product development for ambitious medical manufacturers.

“Paragon has deep experience across a wide range of applications, including implants, surgical instrumentation, single-use disposables devices, and more,” says Wil Boren, CEO of Paragon Medical. “The acquisition of IAI will allow Paragon to continue to build a strong arsenal of manufacturing capabilities and services to better serve our broad client base.”

Brett Cummings, Co-founder and Chief Operating Officer of Industrial Anodizing, says the purchase agreement includes all of their business assets and retains their valued employees.

“Our longstanding relationship with Paragon Medical makes this transition feel like a natural fit,” Cummings says.

Cummings founded Industrial Anodizing in 2012 after serving as Plating Department Manager at TTM Technologies for four years, where they coated circuit boards. When a manufacturing acquaintance, Codie Nelson — who is Cummings’ business partner — told him of a dearth of medical anodizing capabilities in the region, he spent over a year studying the titanium anodizing process before launching the company.

Industrial Anodizing has just four employees but churns out a considerable amount of parts at about 20,000 per week, or roughly 400,000 parts a year.

Boren says Paragon is delighted to be acquiring a quality business like IAI to help move forward in their never-ending pursuit to serve our customers well.

“Adding another core capability like titanium anodizing to our arsenal will enable Paragon Medical to continue to commercialize with excellence,” he says.

Paragon Medical works with ambitious medical manufacturers, helping accelerate new product development with medical device manufacturing and high-precision components for everything from implants and surgical instrumentation to single-use disposable devices and assemblies.
