Hubbard-Hall has taken a significant step forward in modernizing its operations with the implementation of a Manufacturing Execution System (MES).
This advanced application is designed to optimize shop floor operations by providing real-time production control, enhancing decision-making, and fostering continuous improvement — all of which translate to higher-quality products and more efficient production for customers.
The MES application enables real-time monitoring of production processes, ensuring smooth operations by managing inventory, machinery, and support services. Additionally, it supports multi-functional operations such as resource scheduling, order execution, dispatching, production analysis, and quality control. By capturing and documenting all processes and outputs, MES ensures comprehensive records for audits, compliance, and performance tracking, leading to greater consistency and reliability in manufacturing.
Another key benefit of the MES system is its ability to inform employees about the necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) for specific tasks, ensuring a safer work environment and compliance with safety protocols.
Chemical Operator Steven Diaz, the first to use the MES system at Hubbard-Hall, has quickly become an expert and is now training others on its functionality.
“I like the system and can see how it benefits my daily work,” Diaz said. “I’m working with our IT team and Datacor to find ways to make the technology even better.”
Beyond improving day-to-day operations, the MES application equips managers with real-time data to make informed, data-driven decisions that enhance shop floor optimization. By identifying inefficiencies, the system supports ongoing improvements and fosters operational growth—allowing Hubbard-Hall to produce high-quality products with even greater efficiency.
“As we complete the implementation of MES and the Warehouse Management System (WMS) in our Waterbury facility, we are preparing to expand both applications to our other locations,” said Colleen Doyle, IT/ERP Systems Administrator. “This rollout will further enhance efficiency across our entire network and allow us to deliver even greater value to our customers.”
