Houston Plating & Coatings Named First to Achieve PPG QAC Accreditation for Xylan Application

Houston Plating & Coatings says that it is the first coating company in the United States to be qualified by PPG to apply the Xylan coating to systems 2D, 3A, and 3B.

Eric TurnerEric TurnerPPG’s Quality Approved Coater (QAC) program has separate classifications for fastener and tooling applicators, which qualify trusted applicators capable of meeting PPG Xylan application standards. PPG requires coaters to follow proper processes and possess the appropriate equipment and application skills needed to produce quality Xylan-coated components.

Entrance to the program is strictly controlled by PPG, with QAC status awarded on the successful completion of the following, by way of example (but not limited to):

  • Program legal agreement in place
  • Review of coating process documentation
  • Assessment of the applicator’s Xylan coating facilities
  • Review of coating equipment and facilities
  • Review of applicator’s external accreditations
  • Application and verification of applied coatings

“The qualification process was exacting and demanding, and required a long-term commitment, as PPG demands adherence to extremely high standards to be awarded the QAC status,” says Eric Turner, Chief Operating Officer and head of Quality Assurance for HP&C. “Our success in being qualified for the program is consistent with our overall commitment to quality and coating performance.”
