DeKalb Metal Finishing Planning New Facility

DeKalb Metal Finishing in Auburn, Indiana, plans to move into a new facility soon.

The Auburn Common Council voted on Dec. 17 to give the 70-year-old DeKalb Metal Finishing a seven-year personal property tax abatement for a vacant factory on Grandstaff Drive.

The site is the location of a former packaging company that went out of business in 2023.

DeKalb Metal Finishing attorney Tom Niezer told city officials that the company will invest $15 million in new equipment for the facility.

“This equipment is essential for the business to engage in its business plan of growth upwards to 120 employees,” Niezer told the council.

DeKalb Metal Finishing has 67 employees and specializes in zinc and zinc-nickel plating. Chief Financial Officer Matt Morris and President Dennis Fry told the city there is no time frame for moving from its current West  15th Street location to the new facility.

The company also has a smaller location near its main facility on Hazel Street.
