Kansai Helios Coatings to Build Large Powder Coat Plant in Ohio

Kansai Helios Coatings GmbH announced plans to expand its North American operations by establishing a new manufacturing facility in Johnstown, Ohio.

Bastian KraussBastian KraussThe company says their overall investment will be over $20 million, allowing the Johnstown facility to create 48 new jobs by 2030. Additionally, employees will receive specialized education and training opportunities at Kansai Helios production facilities in Germany.

Kansai Helios is a part of Kansai Paint, one of the world’s leading paint and coatings producers, serving a global customer base through manufacturing, distribution, and sales activities worldwide.

It owns CWS Powder Coatings in Blauvelt, New York, and Weilburger North America in Tucker, Georgia.

Bastian Krauss, Executive Vice President and Executive Director of the Kansai Helios Group, says this initiative reflects the company’s commitment to fostering a highly skilled workforce while ensuring the highest standards in sustainable coatings technology. The expansion is expected to double the company’s revenue by 2030, solidifying its long-term growth and market presence in North America.

Additionally, enhanced infrastructure and access to a talented workforce will enable our new facility to serve customers more flexibly and efficiently. Moreover, this expansion underscores our commitment to sustainability, innovation, and excellence in industrial coatings.”

Kansai Helios offers high-performance coating solutions for diverse markets, including automotive, industrial, and construction applications. The new facility will enhance its ability to deliver specialized powder coatings across the U.S. and North America, reinforcing its position as a preferred partner for industrial coatings solutions.

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, Lt. Governor Jim Tressel, and Ohio Department of Development Director Lydia Mihalik announced the approval of 10 projects, including Kansai Helios, which will create 1,063 new jobs statewide.

Kansai Helios Coatings GmbH expects to generate more than $2.4 million in new annual payroll due to the company’s new location in Johnstown. The proposed project includes establishing the company’s largest U.S. powder coat production plant. TCA approved the project's 1.166%, six-year Job Creation Tax Credit.
