Dewalt, a Stanley Black & Decker brand and leader in total jobsite solutions, introduces the Atomic 20V MAX* 4 in. Angle Grinder (DCG400), the first from the brand that provides high-power users the benefits of a cordless, compact tool without sacrificing performance.
Additional products joining the Atomic 20V MAX* lineup include the 4.5 in. Angle Grinder (DCG402), Die Grinder (DCG420) and Right Angle Die Grinder (DCG422). The suite of grinders is designed for applications in confined workspaces and delivers more power than select HP rated pneumatic grinders without the need for hoses, or hassles of complex pneumatic setup.
"The fabrication trades – particularly fitters and welders – perform some of the most demanding applications in the field, making cordless products that meet their performance needs highly advantageous," said Phil Bolton, Director, Product Management, Dewalt. "Dewalt is dedicated to meeting the needs of these trades through innovation and continuing to drive the adoption of cordless tools for safety, maneuverability, and productivity."
Each product in the lineup offers the following benefits:
Atomic 20V MAX* 4 in. Angle Grinder (DCG400)¹
- Up to 44% more power than 0.7 HP rated pneumatic angle grinders
- 13% lighter than competitive pneumatic angle grinder in use
Atomic 20V MAX* 4.5 in. Angle Grinder (DCG402)²
- Smaller gripping diameter versus the DCG408B Angle Grinder
- 29% smaller vs. current Dewalt 20V MAX* grinders
Atomic 20V MAX* Die Grinder (DCG420)³
- Up to 19% more power than 0.5 HP rated pneumatic die grinders
- 45% smaller than Milwaukee M18 Die Grinder

Atomic 20V MAX* Right Angle Die Grinder (DCG422)4
- Up to 22% more power than 0.5 HP rated pneumatic die grinders
- Equal gripping diameter vs. low voltage cordless die grinder
- Up to 53% more power than Milwaukee M12 Die Grinder
Control features include:
- Dewalt Perform and Protect Anti-Rotation System that quickly stops the wheel when a pinch, stall, or bind-up event is sensed, reducing reactionary torque to help maximize user control
- Electronic brake designed to stop the wheel within 1.25 seconds after the on/off trigger is released (using 2" cutting wheel, not included)
- Lanyard Ready attachment points to tether the tool and battery to rigid jobsite structures when working at height (DCG420BLR and DCG400BLR only). Only for use with batteries equipped with Lanyard Ready feature (batteries and lanyards sold separately)
Performance features include:
- Variable Speed Trigger that matches speed to application to help optimize performance with a variable speed up to 24,500 RPM (DCG420 and DCG422 only)
- Fast guard and wheel changes with quick conversion of Type B guards to Type A guards using a clip-on mechanism. The spindle lock allows rapid wheel changes without multiple wrenches (DCG400 and DCG402 only)
- Paddle Switch that replicates the performance and operation of pneumatic tools with the lock off paddle and no-lock on feature
- Forward Exhaust System that directs air away from the user to help prevent overheating
- Onboard LED to help illuminate work surface and optimize visibility (DCG422 and DCG420 only)
- TOOL CONNECT CHIP READY module allows pairing with the TOOL CONNECT Chip (sold separately) and software app for data on jobsite asset management and tool location (additional subscription charge and third-party data charges may apply)
