Allegheny Coatings named Bob Lund as its new President.
Lund brings 26 years of fastener industry experience from his time at The Fastenal Company, where he served in multiple management roles within the manufacturing and engineering teams.
The company says his deep knowledge of the fastener industry, combined with his strategic and operational expertise, will help drive the next phase of growth and innovation for Allegheny Coatings.
“We are grateful to have Bob’s leadership and expect his vision will strengthen our partnerships, expand our capabilities, and continue delivering the high level of service our customers expect,” Allegheny Coating says.
Lund says Fastenal has been a fantastic company to work for, and the people are fantastic.
“Fastenal's engineering team has always leaned on Allegheny Coatings to help solve corrosion issues and create new products,” he says. “During the shared efforts between Fastenal and Allegheny, I developed a great relationship with the Allegheny leadership and am humbled and blessed that I was offered the President's role. I have learned from all the leaders I have worked with at Fastenal and hope that I can use those skills at Allegheny Coatings to mimic the growth we have seen at Fastenal.”
Allegheny Coatings offers a full array of coatings for nearly any industrial application. The company's licensed materials include zinc-flake coatings, dry-film lubricants, high-temperature-resistant coatings, and other specialty coatings.
Allegheny Coatings has expanded to two North American geographies. The Fremont, Indiana, location serves the Midwest, as it is within 3 hours of Chicago, Detroit, and Indianapolis. The Ridgway, Pennsylvania, located services East Coast customers, including Cleveland, Rochester, and Pittsburgh. Both locations are capable of rack spray, dip-spin, and minicoater coating processes.
Allegheny Coatings began in 1985 in Ridgway, which is the heart of the powder metal industry. The company’s first major contract was to coat steam-treated powdered-metal ABS rings with zinc flake coatings, a solution that replaced stainless-steel ABS rings and continues to be used today.
The company’s reputation grew over time, and its coating services were requested for several automotive components — primarily brake rotors and ball studs — leading to the eventual geographic expansion into Indiana in 1996 and Canada in 2000, with a facility in Ingersoll, Ontario.
Allegheny Coatings sold both the Ingersoll and Indiana operations to Curtiss-Wright Surface Technologies in 2006. They focused on growing its Pennsylvania plant operations, which it did remarkably well, increasing sales by 500% over the next 11 years.
In 2017, Allegheny Coatings reacquired the Indiana facility, reuniting with former management and positioning itself for major growth in the years to come.
