Deimco Hosts U.S. Senator, Awarded Small Business of the Week

U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Chair of the Senate Small Business Committee, visited Deimco Finishing Equipment in Tama, Iowa, to present the company with her Small Business of the Week award and reconnect with Deimco’s workforce and mission.

“Since 1983, Deimco Finishing Equipment has specialized in American-made high-quality finishing systems that cater to the automotive, military, medical industries, and more,” said Chair Ernst. "With 99% on-time delivery on over 2,900 completed projects, Deimco Finishing Equipment sure knows how to engineer a smooth finish.”

3Owners Jacob and Kyrsten Shirar toured Senator Ernst, Iowa Senator Annette Sweeney, and Iowa House Representative Dean Fisher through the 40,000-square-foot facility, where team members demonstrated projects including flow coaters for fenestration manufacturers, artillery finishing cells, and powder booths.

Shirar also shared images of Deimco's custom-manufactured equipment used to coat the helmets astronauts on the Artemis II mission wore for the 10-day crewed lunar flyby test flight in April.

“What an honor for Deimco! We were thrilled to host Senator Ernst today to accept the 'Small Business of the Week' award,” said Jacob Shirar, Deimco CEO. “This recognition fuels our passion to keep pushing boundaries, innovating alongside our customers, and supporting our local community. A huge thank you to the Senator for supporting small businesses, and an even bigger thank you to our team for making this possible.”

Tom Deimerly established Deimco Finishing Equipment and operated it until 2002, when Kirk and Cindy Shirar purchased the business. Their vision to provide high-quality finishing systems and automation solutions led them to Tama, Iowa, in 2003 to support their expansion.

4Jacob and Kyrsten purchased the business from Jacob’s parents in February 2024 and now serve as CEO and CFO. The couple also owns Rocky Mountain Finishes in Craig, Colorado. Deimco has been headquartered in Iowa for 43 years and provides manufacturing solutions across the U.S. and around the world.

Senator Ernst officially announced the honor last spring. Deimco also hosted Senator Ernst in 2021, during her annual tour of Iowa.
