The Chemical Coaters Association International Finishing Education Foundation (CCAI FEF) awarded more than $17,000 to nine students this year.
Since 1992, CCAI has awarded scholarship money from the CCAI Matt Heuertz Scholarship Fund to students enrolled in programs that could lead to a career in coatings and finishing. The scholarships are awarded through the CCAI FEF, a 501 (c)(3) tax-exempt charitable organization. Applications from qualified students were reviewed by the CCAI FEF Board of Directors, who determined this year’s scholarship winners.
“This year’s scholarship recipients include high school seniors along with undergraduate and graduate students,” says Sheila LaMothe, CCAI FEF’s executive director. “Each recipient has a unique connection to industrial finishing whether it be through their path of study, employment in the industry through co-ops, internships, or full-time positions, exposure to finishing from family or friends - or a combination of these items. Each recipient has a lot to offer our industry, and we hope their academic pursuits lead them to a career in finishing and coatings.”
In addition to cash awards sent to the student’s school account, each scholarship recipient receives a one-year student membership in CCAI, which allows them to gain significant exposure to the industry and benefit from the multitude of resources available through the association and its regional chapters across the country.
This year CCAI recognized the dedication of a long-time member by naming the top award in his memory. The Jim Gallagher Scholarship was awarded to Daniel Knecht, University of Cincinnati.

Further congratulations are offered to the winners of CCAI Chapter Scholarships. In addition to the National awards, the Twin Cities and Wisconsin CCAI Chapters awarded $18,500 through their own scholarships for students in their regions. CCAI would like to recognize the Twin Cities Chapter recipients: Kay Borgerding, North Dakota State University; Luke Brouillette, University of St. Thomas; Tyler Kleinsasser, South Dakota School of Mines & Technology; and Carissa Stalzer, Iowa State University.
The Wisconsin Chapter awarded Mary Margaret Schilling, University of Wisconsin – Madison, the James Wright Scholarship; Casey Roeser, University of Wisconsin – Madison, received the David Wright Scholarship; and Scott Andreae, University of Wisconsin – Stout, and Kendra Czerneski, Viterbo University, received the James Steffes Scholarship. Additional Wisconsin Chapter scholarship funds were awarded to: Sophia Brooks, Howard University; Adam Degler, University of Wisconsin – Madison; Jacob Diker, University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee; Aaron J. Kinney, University of Wisconsin – Platteville; Tyler Kleinsasser, South Dakota School of Mines & Technology; Dani Rayford, Iowa State University, and Nolan Wagner, St. Norbert College.
